Special Service 2025-16 is for the renewal of waste and recycling collection.
Council along with the approval of the Municipal Board, passed the special service bylaw to renew the levy for the waste and recycling collection. The special service levy allows the Municipality to charge the service to urban residential dwellings and businesses who receive the service as a user pay system.
The bylaw will be in place from 2026-2030 inclusive.
A few changes to note:
- All waste will be hauled to a Regional Landfill site, not Municipal landfills. This will alleviate the rate at which our landfills are filling and provide space for rural residents to dump and also allow Council time to plan for the future of waste management as the Municipality may begin exploring the conversion to waste transfer sites. A waste transfer site operates similar to a landfill, the only difference being that waste is dumped into a large bin which is hauled to a regional landfill.
- 2 year special levy freeze for 2026 & 2027 and a 3% annual increase thereafter.
Council held a public hearing on September 17, 2025 @ 1pm to hear presentations from those affected (those who currently receive the service), prior to giving 1st reading to the proposed bylaw renewal.
